Rally To Awaawaroa
After consulting with
“What’s on When
and Where”, Saturday 9th
November sounded like a great shake down
cruise.
The weather report was
not exactly ideal but H28s can handle
most conditions even though the crew may
complain and suggest that a shopping
event would be more suitable.
Too late for that nonsense,
especially after seeing Rondo and crew
at the launching ramp. Not to sure if Skana
would come or not, but off we went. Up
went the mainsail, (so far so good).
Did a gybe
to check all clearances with the newly
fitted bamimi.
No problems, so pulled the head
sail out and away we went to lunch with
Carafe at Ocean beach on Motuhie
Island. After a short break Monty Python
and Carafe were joined by Rondo and yes
it was all on. First second or third,
who was it to be in the 25 knot westerly
with a moderate sea. It was a close
finish Monty’s dirty appendage and the
other two towing a dingy.
Monty just managed to get the
edge, ahead of Carafe and then Rondo.
But, of course we were not really
racing!
Considering the
weather forecast it was not surprising
that no other boats turned up but those
who made the effort were rewarded
by feasting on board Carafe with Lee
(H28 Cinderella) serving dinner for six.
Fresh spuds dug yesterday by Colin!
The wind died down
until around 10.00 pm. when it
freshened, with some really big gusts,
almost to what was forecasted.
The early morning saw Carafe
prepare for sail followed by Monty &
then Rondo.
The return journey home was more
suited to motor than sail, and the
Coastguard forecast did not inspire
lingering.
All and all a good
shake down cruise

Python)
