Auckland Anniversary Regatta

In January there is a class race from Mahurangi to
Auckland as part of the Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta
Many consider this to be one of the most
interesting events of the year.
The weekend begins with a leisurely sail to
Mahurangi harbour on either Friday or Saturday. On arrival communications
are made so that all H28 gather together and planning is arranged around
the traditional BBQ on shore.
This planning often includes an excursion
up the river to Warkworth, depending on tides. For many members this is a
new destination and for those unsure of navigating in the meandering
mangroves, you can either follow the leader, or be part of the “on board
flotilla”.
The whole long weekend is flexible and some
may just choose to wander over to Kawau Island and then return to meet up
on the start line for the main race from Mahurangi to Orakei wharf.
